INTUITION: Listen To Your Heart
by Christine Whelan (published as February 2011 column of Lightworker's Way in the Spiritual Niagara Newsletter -- spiritualniagara.ca ) As I’ve mentioned in past months, intuition is one of the two greatest and most powerful tools we own. The other is our emotional guidance system. No one can take them away from us. But they can surely be hidden from us. For so many of us the reality is, these two internal, essential devices have been dismantled and scrambled to a personal extent at an early age. As children, the adults around us systematically, albeit unknowingly, caused us to second guess both our intuition and emotions. Now, I’m not mommy and daddy bashing here. It happened to them too. We, as humans being, pass these unspoken legacies onto our most loved ones because it’s normal to us. I’m not complaining or being negative about this at all. This is how it is. What has been taken from us is only hidden for us to find again. This is a big part of our own personal healing in this lifetime. We all come to a point where we need to turn the lights back on and stop living in auto pilot; a time to go back to where we left ourselves, grab our authentic self by the hand and bring ourselves back up to where we’ve been believing we are. By doing this, we begin a personal awakening. When we “awaken”, we begin to see ourselves (our inner world) and our interaction with the people, places and things surrounding us (our outer world) in a whole new way. We begin to walk with new legs, as a baby does when it learns how to walk for the first time. Having an awakening allows us the opportunity to learn how to walk for the second time. “And how”, you may be asking, “am I to learn how to do all this AND have a normal, functioning life?” Start by getting re-acquainted with your intuition. Intuition, coming from the Latin word “intueri” meaning “to see within”, is what we also call our “gut feeling” or our sixth sense. It’s the whispering of our authentic self, or our soul, telling us what to do next in order to continue to be true to ourselves, keeping us on our path. When the whispers tell us that something good has crossed our path, it’s kinda like hearing children laughing in the distance. It catches our attention, our curiosity, making us want to check it out, anticipating that something good is about to happen. We might experience certain physical symptoms such as butterflies in our stomach or an overall lightness. When the whispers are telling us to stop, make change, or take a different direction, it’s kinda like an alarm going off. The physical symptoms might include a heaviness or sickness in our stomach. These physical indicators are different for everyone. These whispers are so powerful they can help us reach greatness. They can also save our lives. For instance, how many people who worked at or around the World Trade Center had a bad feeling and trusted that feeling to not go to work the morning of September 11, 2001? We heard of many. (Now, cue in the scary background music.) Intuition’s greatest nemesis is fear - fear of rejection, fear of criticism, fear of failure / success, fear of making the wrong decision (no such thing). I think you get my point. Trusting our intuition can take courage, and sometimes a leap of faith. Following everyday hunches and honing in on these listening skills needed is like going to the gym and exercising your physical muscles Exercise: The easiest way to strengthen our intuition is attention. By focusing on an object, relaxing, and taking deep breaths, we can retrain our minds to let our intuition surface. When we concentrate on a single object, once a day, everyday, and block out our rational mind, we begin the journey to get back in touch with our intuition. First of all, get comfortable, sit down, relax and take 3-4 deep cleansing breaths. Look at an object in the room, focus, concentrate, block everything else out. Do this as long at least 3-5 minutes. |
Oh, and by the way, just as a little side note. While I’ve been working on this article, I’ve noticed that my own powers of intuition got a tune up. It was all just a matter of putting some extra focus and attention on my own intuition. The same thing happened to me while reading the book “Gift of Fear” by Gavin de Becker, which has been highly recommended by Oprah for every woman to read, and I very much agree.
Now is the time when we are all meant to experience personal awakening of our own special design and degree. If we all join in and do our part to work our own awakening, collectively we have the power to change the energies of our planet.
Ya that’s right, we all rock!
Love and Light, my beautiful and powerful friends.
